Somatically Informed Anxiety Reduction Group For Women.
Women, come join me for a somatically informed anxiety reduction group and find out what makes group therapy such a powerful engine for personal growth. After running over 1,200 therapy groups in the last two years, I’m finally offering a group experience through my private practice.
Group Therapy Offers A Unique Growth Opportunity.
Group therapy, by its very nature and function, highlights the fact you are not alone in your experience of anxiety. You are not alone in any of your experiences, in fact. Group work puts this front and center. Each session you hear your own experience echoed in the experience of others. So often, and particularly with the experience of high anxiety, we feel alone and isolated. No one looks as anxious as we feel. Group allows you to hear, again and again, the degree to which your internal experience of anxiety and distress is a common one. The comfort and safety of a guided experience group affords the opportunity to build a supportive community, learning and growing together. Group allows you to witness the growth of others over time and see this reflected in your own growth and development.
Why Is Group Therapy An Ideal Therapy For Anxiety Reduction?
So often, our anxiety has a significant social component. We are more anxious around people. Afraid of being judged. Afraid of saying the wrong thing. Wracked with self conscious judgements and thoughts. Our anxiety can get so loud it is hard to stay present with others. Over time, group therapy provides a safer opportunity to experiment with showing up more fully in a group or social setting. You know what else? People with anxiety get better when they focus on learning how to unlearn their anxious responses. Group becomes a hopeful experience as we bear witness to the growth in one another. We can learn to navigate these waters together.
Group Has The Potential To Replicate Your Family System.
Yikes! Okay, so that's true. But it's also already true of any group of people you hang around with often enough and long enough. Sooner or later our family dynamics will come into play. We unintentionally step into our roles from our family of origins and subconsciously try and work that stuff out. At work. In our circle of friends. In our relationships. In our group. Group therapy is an ideal place to start to smooth out these rough spots and develop a new and more productive way of both showing up and relating. Group therapy has a unique way of shining a light on our patterns of relating to one another, making them more obvious. Allowing us to face the manner in which we interact and do the work of healing our relationship habits.
What Makes This Group Unique?
This is a somatically informed group. What does that even mean? As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), I have been trained to work with your nervous system to facilitate the release of trauma and develop an increased ability to self-regulate. For the last 13 years I have specialized in working with highly anxious adults and find the ability to self-regulate, self-soothe, and increase one's sense of well-being is a primary requirement for creating and sustaining improvement. For highly anxious folks, our anxious symptoms and sensations may have become so overwhelming that the body has become our enemy. Using specific forms of mindful awareness and somatic support for your nervous system, you can become friends with your body again, lower your level of anxious symptoms over time, learn new ways to work with both your thoughts and your nervous system, increase the healing self-care you practice over multiple areas of life, learn how to identify and set boundaries, while noticing how these practices play out and feel in your body. And your life and relationships.
Enrolling Members Now With An Eye Towards Launching In Early 2023.
I am in the process of forming an anxiety reduction process group for women in Orange County. As a psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), I incorporate body awareness while working with either individuals, couples, or groups. Somatic awareness is a vital tool for anxiety reduction, self soothing, creating increased self-awareness and self-regulation, becoming more in touch with our emotions, and building resiliency. I have space for 8 to 10 women dedicated to personal growth through a twice monthly group therapy. Come find out what makes group work such a dynamic way to experience growth, on its own or as an adjunct to your individual work. Call me at 714-914-5565 or email at [email protected] for more information.
Already In Therapy? No Problem!
While group therapy is a powerful model and can stand on its own, it is also a terrific compliment to your individual work. What I have observed in the long-term groups I have run is those who engage in both group and individual work grow faster. Individual therapy and group support promote self-development in different ways. Your deep one-on-one work remains ideal for your individual therapy--there's rarely time for that in a group setting--while we can work in group with everything else.
